Another Camping Weekend on Orcas Island September 5, 2011
With last minute camping options very limited on Labor Day weekend, we once again decided to head to Obstruction Pass State Park at the far end of Orcas Island. We were worried about finding a camping spot, but fortunately, everything worked out very well. There will still a few open camping spots due to the hike-in nature of the campground.
Our activities on this trip included a variety of adventures including “pebble beach” time on Saturday and Sunday. We made it up to Mt Constitution, although we didn’t quite do the trail we intended. We did the “Little Summit Trail” instead of the higher trail to the main summit. We also managed to see two great sunsets from a nice quiet beach looking out across Puget Sound.
Our last stop before boarding the ferry back to Anacortes and Seattle was this great little metal sculpture park. The great thing about these sculptures is that virtually all of them involved motion which really keeps kids entertained. The “do not touch rule” is enforced because a lot of the scultpures are rather sharp. We hope to stop by that little park again on our next visit.
