Picture of Beach at Obstruction Pass on Orcas Island

For those looking for an experience a bit more rugged than East Sound on Orcas Island, the first stop is usually Moran State Park. If you like to camp with a few hundred of your closest camper friends, then indeed Moran State Park is a great stopping point. But, a few miles past Moran is a much quieter spot. Obstruction Pass has ample parking and offers a half mile hike in to the campgrounds. There are 10 campsites and for this particular trip, there were only about 2-3 campsites being used. There are short walks down to some quiet and wind-shielded pebble beaches that offered great spot to soak on the 70+ degree days for the first time this year.

This particular picture was taken at the west facing beach which wasn't wind protected. Hence, Silas is wearing his extra warm outfit as he searches for treasures on the beach.

PS – Orcas Island isn't actually named for the Orca…
