Camping at North Twenty Mile Lookout July 5, 2010
We decided to head east (and north) in search of sunshine for our July 4th weekend. We headed over the North Cascade Highway and through Winthrop to the North 20 Mile lookout(s) in the heart of the Okanogan wilderness. With a not quite mountaineers start at 4:30 pm, we managed to get setup up just in time for sunset at around 9:00. The trail consisted of dead and burned forest, so it was lacking a bit in beauty. The top was great, with views of the peaks of the North Cascades as well as the Okanogans. Temperatures dropped to around freezing during the night but we all slept well in the cool air. This video was taken as we settled into bed on Saturday night. Silas was pretty happy to be in the tent on the first overnight hike and camp of the “summer season”.
