Icy crust at Alpental December 28, 2010

If by thin cover they mean a thick ice cover, then this sign is accurate. Last night a storm moved through the Cascades which dumped a good bit of snow. Unfortunately, this was followed by a quick, heavy rain which created an ice crust that made for some rather difficult skiing and snowboarding. International was closed and much of the upper mountain still has yet to open. We ended up leaving the pass before noon. Hoping that our winter can stay a bit colder and give us some better snow in the mountains.
