Skiing at Crystal Mountain January 11, 2015, 10:12 pm

Skiing at Crystal Mountain
Silas and I joined the boys at Crystal Mountain on Saturday. We came seeking rain, fog, rocks, and dirt. And boy did we find it. This was one of our last runs of the day when visibility was especially poor. I told Silas that he’s going to grow up thinking atrocious weather and ski conditions [...]

Cargo bike with four kids December 4, 2014, 3:20 pm

Cargo bike with four kids

Way back I late September or early October, we loaded the Yuba Mundo up with four kids for a short journey through Fremont. We sandwiched a few friends between an orange-clad Hazel and Silas. I don’t think we would’ve made it up the Fremont hill, but cruising around lower Fremont was easy and fun.

Cold journey to work December 3, 2014, 4:52 pm

Cold journey to work

We’ve had ice on the roads and in the shadows for 5 days now. My run commute brought me by these ice crystals next to Dexter Ave. Last night, on my jog home I was cold for about 3 hours once I got in the house. A shortsleeve run with a headwind and freezing temps probably isn’t the best for keeping warm.

Rooftop park in downtown Seattle September 4, 2014, 11:24 pm

Rooftop park in downtown Seattle

This rooftop park right in the middle of downtown Seattle is one of the best lunch spots in all of Seattle during the summer. Just grab a bite to eat or bring something from home and head up the elevator to the little oasis in a high place. I should be able to get a few more breaks up there before the weather turns.

Flipping bikes off the dock at South Lake Union September 2, 2014, 11:36 pm

Flipping bikes off the dock at South Lake Union Unfortunately, this wasn’t any of the Unger family bikers, doing tricks off of this steep ramp at South Lake Union. It was just a bunch of dudes having a good time. We hung out a bit as we made our way home from a downtown activity. Nearby there were also a bunch of people jumping [...]

Striding down the painted dots street June 24, 2014, 9:20 pm

Striding down the painted dots street We took a detour on the way down to school this week to enjoy the freshly painted dots in Fremont. I assume they were refreshed for the solstice celebration this past weekend. The unusual thing about the dots is that they all start from a silly face at a nearby intersection, that was also freshly [...]

Silas, Hazel and Friend Walking on a Quiet Street June 18, 2014, 8:24 pm

Silas, Hazel and Friend Walking on a Quiet Street

We headed to the cascade Foothills down near Mount Rainier last weekend for a fun-filled Father’s Day weekend. Although thing look pretty wet and rainy in this pic, we managed to dodge the raindrops for most of the weekend. According to Hazel, the most fun part of the weekend was our hike through the forest and over a raging creek.

Watching the Ballard Crit Bike Race June 12, 2014, 7:44 pm

Watching the Ballard Crit Bike Race

We headed over to Ballard to watch another set of exciting bike races through the rough and bumpy Seattle city streets. These bikers were probably going by as at 30 miles per hour here. We did not participate in the race with out Yuba Mundo, but I’m sure they will have these types of races in the future.

Kid’s first “bike” commute June 6, 2014, 12:08 pm

Kid’s first “bike” commute I had Silas and Hazel on their Striders this morning as we headed into daycare/preschool. We carefully made our way down the hill from our house to the Burke-Gilman trail, and then we really started gliding our way to school. A few bikers and pedestrians gave us a wave or said hello, and the kids [...]
