About RYan Unger aka Ungerwhere
Hey, I’m Ryan,
I’ve been making photographs since before digital cameras were mainstream, and I haven’t really stopped since.
Over the past 27 years I’ve shot for the Times-News in Twin Falls, contributed to Outside Magazine, photographed outdoor/lifestyle brands and covered stories across more than 35 countries ranging from daily newsrooms and movie sets to tribal communities in Brazil and refugee camps in Europe and SE Asia. Ive hiked over 14,000 miles with a camera, including the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, the Continental Divide Trail and many more because that seems reasonable.
I specialize in outdoor adventure, action sports, lifestyle and human stories in wild places. If it involves a backpack and people doing hard things in a variety of landscapes, that’s where I do my best work.
I am available for assignment. Editorial, event coverage, outdoor sports, and documentary work. If you have a story that needs telling or an event that needs photographing, reach out.
The other side of the story.
I am also a missionary, thru hiker, and self described fun-hogger. Mostly just a guy who loves walking really far and eating well (sometimes at the same time).
After two decades of traveling around the world, I’ve learned it’s always the people, not the places, that make the journey worth it. That’s as true behind the lens as it is on the trial.
Work with me.
